Estonia

A Baltic nation, Estonia gained its independence in 1918 after centuries of Danish, Swedish, German and Russian rule. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Estonia has been a parliamentary republic with a civil law system.


Estonia has 15 urban municipalities and 64 rural municipalities in terms of administrative regions.


Estonia, a member of the EU since 2004 and the Euro Zone since 2011, has an market-led economy highly dependent on trade. The economy has benefited from strong electronics and telecommunications sectors and strong trade ties with Finland, Sweden, Germany, and Russia.
